Pretext is an offline procrastination tracker that logs what you avoid, runs private Excuse Court on your device, and reflects your excuses with dry sarcasm.

- What is Excuse Court?
Each excuse can become a local case with evidence, charges, verdicts, appeals, and tiny next steps. Excuse Court processing stays on your iPhone — no cloud case sync.
- How do roast levels work?
Choose gentle, sarcastic, or brutal but fair in Settings or during onboarding. This sets how sharp mirror lines and Excuse Court copy feel across the app.
- How do tone packs work?
Notification tones include Gentle and Dry for free. Unlock Spicy with Insight Mode, or buy the Tone Bundle for all six tones (Philosopher, Passive-Aggressive, Deadpan, and more).
- What is Insight Mode?
Insight Mode unlocks pattern insights, heatmaps, weekly and monthly summaries, autopsy history, custom excuses, and shareable cards. Manage it under Settings → In-App Purchases or Apple ID Subscriptions.
- How do I export my data?
Open Settings, then use the export option in the data/privacy section.
- How do I cancel my subscription?
Manage subscriptions in iOS: Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions.
- How do reminders work?
Pretext uses local notifications scheduled on your device. No server push is used.
- Do widgets work offline?
Yes. Home screen widgets read shared local data through the App Group — no account required.
- What is the Graduation System?
Check off the same item for 21 days straight and it graduates to the Hall of Mild Improvement. You can always relapse it back if needed.
- How do I change the app icon?
Open Settings and tap App Icon. Choose from 10 Mochi expressions — all free.
- Does Pretext use AI?
On iOS 26+, Pretext can use Apple's on-device Foundation Models for mirror lines, excuse validation, and Excuse Court enhancement. Everything runs locally when available. No excuse data is sent to Pretext servers.
